Congregational Meeting - Sunday School

I would like to thank all the teachers for volunteering their time to the future of this church and the communities represented.  Also, I would like to thank the parents who follow God's command as outlined in Deuteronomy 6:7.  Please recall that Sunday School equates to less than 35 hours class time each year and that this is only a small period of time compared to what we as parents are to teach our children.
Class Structure

Sunday School has a total of five learning platforms consisting of seven classes.  In December 2016 there were 46 children in our Sunday school program.  Additionally, throughout the year there have been others that have attended on a regular basis but because of relocation, these numbers fluctuate.

First Catechism (FC)

There are a total of 8 teachers and 28 children making up three classes.  The classes are aged 2-4, 4-K and 1st-2nd grade.  Learning all of the FC will take two years.  Kids learning the First Catechism have proved that memorization is not age dependent as children from all three groups have remembered questions.  By the time they move on to the Shorter Catechism class, they should have memorized all of the First Catechism.

Shorter Catechism (SC)

There are a total of 4 teachers and 18 students making up two classes.  Similar to the FC, learning all of the SC will take two years.  A majority of kids from these classes memorize half the SC questions in their first year then the second half their second year.  By the time they graduate, if they began in 3rd grade, they would have had the opportunity to memorize the questions a total of three times.  The kids going to summer camp (Kalispell, MT) pay half price if all the SC questions and answers have been memorized in the year.

Teachers

Teachers generally work two non-concurrent quarters each year.  There are currently 12 teachers for Sunday school alone.

Memorization

As mentioned in previous Congregational Meeting updates, we continue to see a yearly increase in the amount of children memorizing scripture and catechism questions.  At the end of December 2016 there have been numerous kids that have memorized all that has been asked of them as well as memorizing the required questions to attend summer camp.  This is great news but we must not forget that we remain diligent at teaching to the heart of our students in order press on to Ephesians 4:11-16.

The memorization list for each quarter is posted on our website. On a weekly basis the memorization requirements can be found on our Blog page and within the bulletin.

Record Keeping

At this point, we continue to struggle with the issue of record keeping.  Teachers are keeping better records than years past although this is where the struggle is found.

At the end of each quarter an electronic version of the verses should be sent to each of the teachers and their quarterly memory sheet is compared to the electronic master memory sheet at the end of each quarter.  Please keep in contact with your respective Sunday School teacher to ensure your child and/or their teacher are current with memory work.

Vision

·      Improve our prayers for the parents, students, and teachers of this community.

·      Increase our family devotions and time spent teaching our children.

·      More methodology training for the teachers resulting in better prepared teachers.

VBS is tentatively scheduled to take place on the week of June 26.
