After last Sunday morning's sermon, I was asked how Hebrews 4:16 fits with the idea that all the grace that we need has been secured for us in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It fits very nicely! We are in constant need of God's grace, so we go to him in prayer. The result of asking God for grace to meet a certain challenge, or obey him, or go through a time of tribulation is that God gives us grace. That is the implication of Hebrews 4:16. After we ask God for grace, we don't need to sit around waiting for some future event to zap us into obedience. We pray for grace. We obey by grace.
