The Incarnation of the Servant of the Lord - Isaiah 42:1-9

Introduction – What are the best things about Christmas?
        I.             The Servant Described, 1-4.
A.   Who is the servant?
B.   God's attitude toward his servant, 1a.
C.   The task of the servant – bring justice and truth to the Gentiles, 1b, 3b.
D.  The way in which he will accomplish his task, 2-4
        II.          The Servant Addressed, 5-7.
A.   God is now speaking directly to his servant.
B.   Notice how God introduces himself, 5.
C.   The mission of the Servant is a covenantal mission, 6.
D.  As the one who will and who has established a covenantal way to God, he is the light of the world, 6b-7.
        III.       This Is Much Better Than Idolatry, 8-9.
A.    God goes back to how he began the chapter and confronts them and us with our idolatry.
B.     He is the true God and he will not share his glory with any other false gods.
C.    But he will share it with Jesus!
D.    God didn't send to us some creature to do the work of our salvation.
E.     God sent himself in the person of God the Son because the work of salvation can only be done by God.

Conclusion– When we celebrate Christmas, we are celebrating the birth of the God-Man.
