OBPC’s Children Sunday School

The Bible Presbyterian Church of Olympia offers Sunday school classes starting at age 2 through 8th grade. All our classes study one of two catechisms:

·      Ages 2 – 2^ndgrade study and memorize the First Catechism (it used to be called Children's catechism; we refer to it the bulletin as FCQ);

·      3^rd-8^thgrades study and memorize the Westminster Shorter Catechism (we refer to it in the bulletin as SCQ).

Each Sunday school quarter consists of 13 weeks and it takes two years for our classes to go through both catechisms.  A child becomes eligible to be part of the Sunday school program on the first Sunday of July following his/her second birthday.  A child graduates from the children's Sunday School program on the first Sunday of July following his/her eighth grade year.  The breakdown of the classes is as follows:

·      Class # 1 (First Catechism) – a child starts in this class on the first Sunday of July following his/her second birthday and moves out of this class on the first Sunday of July following his/her fourth birthday;

·      Class # 2 (First Catechism) – a child starts in this class on the first Sunday of July following his/her fourth birthday and moves out of this class on the first Sunday of July following completion of kindergarten (usually around 6 years old);

·      Class # 3 (First Catechism) – a child starts in this class on the first Sunday of July following completion of kindergarten and moves out of this class on the first Sunday of July following completion of second grade (usually around 8 years old);

·      Class # 4 (Shorter Catechism) – a child starts in this class on the first Sunday of July following completion of second grade and moves out of this class on the first Sunday of July following completion of fifth grade (usually around 11 years old);

·      Class # 5 (Shorter Catechism) – a child starts in this class on the first Sunday of July following completion of fifth grade and moves out of this class on the first Sunday of July following completion of eighth grade (usually around 14 years old).

The questions and answers for any particular quarter are posted at the church's website (www.olympiabp.net) and the current week's questions are in the bulletin, Facebook, and the homepage of the church's website.  Catechizing our covenant children is primarily the responsibility of parents.  We have designed this Sunday school program in order to help parents fulfill this responsibility.
