The Opening Day of Synod

Pastor Dyck - Moderator of the 79th General Synod
The first day of synod is always exciting because we get to reacquainted with friends we haven't seen in months!  It was particularly exciting to see Pastor Glen Rogers who hadn't been able to attend synod for a while.  Pastor Tim Prussic (Columbia BPC in Scappoose, OR) handed the moderating gavel to the new moderator of our synod, Pastor John Dyck (Edmonton BPC).
The first day is always filled with procedural motions, receiving of delegates, reading of communications, and committee meetings.  So far, Pastor Tito and Elder Hughey have attended meetings of the Bills & Overtures committee, Inter-Church Relations committee, and Presbyterial Records committee.  We have two representatives from other denominations attending our synod: Pastor Jack Sawyer from the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and Roger Schultz  from the Hanover Presbytery.
The theme of synod this year is the Westminster Standards and their history.  Pastor Prussic opened the teaching/preaching facet of our meeting with a sermon on Psalm 78 about the importance of grabbing the Faith of our fathers and transmitting it to our children.  Elder Stu Willis finished the day with an excellent message on the doctrine of the Scripture.  All sermons can be found here.
