Grace-motivated Obedience - Joshua 23:1-13

Introduction

Joshua is about 100 years old, but he's not too old to preach sermons.

I.             How God Often Works

A.    Several times Joshua reminds the people that it is by God's power, by God's sovereignty, by God's doing that they have occupied this land.
B.    Yet Joshua also says that the people of Israel are to conquer the land, compare v. 3 with v. 5 and v. 11.

II.          How Spiritual Obedience Works

A.    God grabs hold us.
B.    He gives to the people a series of commands or imperatives, vv. 6, 11, 12
C.    There are two things that Joshua is saying to the people of God.
1.    The first is a very simple thing: obedience always and invariably involves a positive and a negative.
2.    The second thing is this: be very careful to do all that God commands, 6, 8.

Conclusion – Hold fast to the Lord because he is holding fast to you.
